Swedish massage is a gentle flowing massage
technique that is particularly effective for people suffering work related or
personal stress. Usually, this is a full body massage. You may want to have some
areas skipped or opt to have the therapist work on all of your body.
Sports massage is a goal-oriented sports
conditioning massage. With this type of work the therapist may use his/her
forearms, elbows or thumbs to apply pressure. It focuses on the deeper layers of
muscle tissue. The goal to release deeply held patterns of tension, removing
toxins, while relaxing & soothing the muscle. It is both connective &
therapeutic.
Myofascia comes from the Latin word "myo"
meaning muscle and fascia meaning "band". Normally, fascia is relaxed &
"wavy" with the ability to stretch & move without restriction. Physical
trauma, stress, scarring, etc. causes the fascia to lose its pliability &
this causes restriction & tension to the rest of the body. This restriction
in turn, is the underlying cause of most chronic pain problems that have not
responded to traditional medical/medicines or surgical intervention. This type of
work is used to relieve aches & pains. The therapist will apply pressure,
using the palm of his/her hand or fingers tips. You may be asked to breathe
during this session or move your extremities during a stroke so that muscles may
be better accessed.
The massage therapist will access information
about any medical condition i.e.; allergies, recent surgeries, illnesses or
accidents, whether you are pregnant, what medications you are taking, if you have
had a massage before, the type of massage and how long ago it was.
After the assessment, you will have a few minutes to yourself in the room to get
onto the massage table. The therapist will leave the room, so you have privacy. At this
point, you get undressed, taking off only the amount of clothing that you are
comfortable with.
During the session, the therapist will check with you about the pressure of the
strokes. Feel free to speak up at any time. We want you to feel relaxed, rejuvenated
& revived.
